The SysBioLab has been established at the University of Algarve in 2008 under the Ciência 2007 initiative by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT). Starting with just Matthias as PI, we have grown a lot over the years and are working now on a wide range of topics in biology and medicine. Our common focus are molecular networks in various organisms, their structure and their functioning. Our goals are to interpret molecular events within their network context and connect them to observable phenotypes. To achieve these goals, we are exploiting the wealth of available biological data and information, the power of computers and - last but not least - the ingenuity of our brain to come up with novel and innovative approaches that can cope with the complexity of the molecular world. Although our expertise is certainly in computational biology, we do also experiments (or at least some of us). So, if you interested in joining the lab, starting a collaboration or just want to know more about our research, let us know!
