This option appears only when the loaded file is not georeferenced but has imbedded a list of GCPs. Note that are cases of files having both of them but in such situations this option doesn’t show up. When we have that GCPs list, referencing the image works pretty much like described in Register Image (Draw GCP points) with the further simplification that the control points are already there. Note also that although it’s possible to move the control points position, these eventual editing is ignored when referencing the image.
When the number of control points is greater than 10, a polynomial warping method is set as default. However, this might not always be the best option. It’s up to you to decide/try.
