Oil painting is one of my recent hobbies. I started to do it in 2003. I'm just a beginner and so far I try to learn by imitation. I use a photograph as a model and try to reproduce it with oil on canvas. Some of the paintings above have a "making of" link showing the painting in various phases. I usually start by doing a sketch with pencil. I also used to make a grid to help me do the sketch on the canvas (that's because I'm very bad at drawing!). Lately, I'm not doing the grid anymore.

I have a friend who is an excellent teacher. His name is Joćo Paulo Gouveia. I've been painting more or less once a week for about 3 hours in the evening at Colar de Contas, a shop located in Faro where Joćo Paulo and his girlfriend Vera work. While I paint Joćo Paulo gives me lots of good tips.
